Celebrated a Mass at the St Sofia Cathedral Ecumenical Patriarch in London Sources: ANA
Ecumenical Patriarchate Bartholomew is on an official visit to London. On Monday evening, he celebrated a mass at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St Sophia on the occasion of the celebration of Three Hierarchs (Basil the Great, Gregory of Nazianzus and John Chrysostom are the traditional patron saints of education in the Orthodox world). After the mass, he addressed the congregation, urging parents to educate their children, for this is the greatest treasure they can offer them. Bartholomew also runs comes up against, and voiced his hope that Turkey’s EU orientation may help solve these problems. Members of the Greek community in London, delegates from Greece and Cyprus’ embassies, Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams and representatives of other religious groups, former King Constantine of Greece and members of his family attended the mass at the St Sophia Cathedral.
Bartholomew visited London upon Archbishop of Canterbury’s invitation, so that the two spiritual leaders present Tuesday the results the dialogue between the two Churches, the Greek Orthodox and the Anglican, has yielded so far. They will then declare the continuation of the dialogue. Later on, they will co-celebrate a mass at the Westminster Abbey.

 | | Legal analysis / Not the first PM to face the fire | | By Ze'ev Segal (reprinted with the permission of Haaretz Daily Newspaper, Israel's leading daily publication)
| | The Basic Law on Government attaches special importance to the decision to open a criminal investigation against a prime minister, by stipulating that such a probe can only be launched "with the attorney general's consent." The attorney general does not have to make the decision, but he does have to approve it. Thus State Prosecutor Eran Shendar's decision to investigate Ehud Olmert over the sale of Bank Leumi should, by law, have received Menachem Mazuz's approval.
Shendar's decision was based on the existence of an "evidentiary infrastructure" that, to his mind, justified an investigation. This evidence is not yet enough to warrant an indictment, but the decision is nevertheless significant, as it was made following preliminary police inquiries.
Olmert is suspected of breach of trust and abusing his position.

The Way Forward out of the storm in Iraq
The troop surge in Bagdad will help improve security. The US should have no problem finding the troops. There are presently 53,000 in Europe and 20,000 marines in Japan. Both Europe and Japan do not presently need US assistance for peace and security as they both have the ability to defend themselves. |

Controversial head of Jewish delegation to Iranian Holocaust Denial conference resurfaces in Vienna Pull quote: "I pray for Israel's destruction in peaceful ways." By Gil ZoharContradictory reports continue to circulate about "Rabbi" Moshe Aryeh Friedman, the 30-something Viennese rabble-rouser who led a controversial six-man delegation to last month's Holocaust denial conference in Tehran. Was he arrested in Iran, or did he fear to return to Austria – where like in Germany Holocaust denial is a criminal offence? On December 11, 2006 Friedman participated in the two-day International Conference to Review the Global Vision of the Holocaust held in Tehran, which was sponsored by Iran's Foreign Ministry Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) for the purpose of "reviewing the Holocaust". Speaking at a forum hosted by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad – who has previously said that the Holocaust was a "myth" created by the West and called for the destruction of Israel – Friedman was quoted as claiming that the Holocaust is "a successful fiction". Following the much-publicized conference and the publication of photos of the Neturei Karta leader and Ahmadinejad embracing, Friedman disappeared. |
