TIFF Wrap Up

By: Andrew Moran

Another year has passed the 32nd Toronto International Film Festival has passed.  The festival didn’t have a lot of ‘breakout’ pictures but it did bring a lot of celebrities to Toronto.  This year George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Ewan McGregor and, of course, the almighty Woody Allen came to town.

What captured headlines this year at TIFF were: 1) Sean Penn’s outburst at the festival for not being allowed to smoke.  2) Colin Farrell’s shopping spree with the homeless man. 3) Woody Allen’s presence in this city.

Below is this year’s list of winners:

Cadillac People's Choice Award:
"Eastern Promises," directed by David Cronenberg

FIPRESCI International Critics Prize:
"La Zona," directed by Rodrigo Pla

Artistic Innovation Award:
"Encarnacion," directed by Anahi Berneri

Diesel Discovery Award:
"Cochochi," directed by Israel Cardenas & Laura Amelia Guzman

CityTV Award for Best Canadian Feature Film:
"My Winnipeg," directed by Guy Maddin

Toronto-City Award for Best Canadian First Feature Film:
"Continental, Un Film Sans Fusil," directed by Stephane Lafleur

Award for Best Canadian Short Film:
"Pool," directed by Chris Chong Chan Fui

Next year The Toronto Times promises to have even more and better coverage of the 33rd Annual Toronto International Film Festival.  We would like to thank you for the last two years of supporting and checking us out for your TIFF news.
