Real Canadian Supercentre:poor service and empty shelves PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 05 May 2008

Poor service, rude staff, and empty selves. Weston has failed to deliver on recent promises to improve service and quickly restock inventory in its stores, including its flagship stores.

Competition from Walmart, Shoppers and traditional supermarkets is increasing. Weston lacks the economies of scale of Walmart to compete on price over the long term. Moreover, it can no longer delay the expansion of Walmart using legal means, such as zoning and planning battles. Accordingly it will face increased competition and declining margins.

This is why it is so important for Weston to improve service which will allow for premium pricing and quickly turn over inventory. Empty selves and poor service hurt these objectives. Management has failed to get the message out to front line staff, and it will, unless it forthwith makes changes, soon pay the price.
