A man arrested for beheading a fellow passenger on a Greyhound bus in Canada has made his second court appearance. He was remanded for psychiatric assessment. The crown revealed new facts pertaining to the murder and in support of the assessment. Mr. Li is alleged to have cut the nose, one ear and part of the victim's mouth and placed the body parts in a plastic bag which police found on him after his arrest.

"The victim was asleep and did nothing to provoke Mr. Li. We all feel terribly for the young man. We can only imagine the horror and nightmare his family is now experiencing", stated an older gentleman.

Vince Weiguang Li, is aged 40, is a recent immigrant from China.

Vince Weiguang Li has no prior criminal record. He previously worked for Walmart and for an Edmonton newspaper as a newspaper carrier. Recent reports state he  spent three days in a psychiatric facility during the past 60 days.

He is charged with second-degree murder. The motive for the attack is not known.

Mr Li asked to be executed on his second court appearance.

The victim has now been identified as 22-year old Tim McLean. His friends describe him as a wonderful young man who loved life and loved to travel. He was a small young man who was very gentle and would never provoke anyone.

Mr Li, of Edmonton, Alberta, remained silent throughout his first appearance at the initial court appearance in Portage la Prairie.

Police have offered no motive for the attack.

Duty counsel assisted Mr Li in court today and the judge recommended that he retain a lawyer.

Eyewitnesses on board the bus, which was travelling through a desolate stretch of Canada's vast prairies, said the attacker stabbed the person sitting next to him 50 or 60 times. He then severed his head with a large knife and gutted the victim like a hunted animal. He also cut parts of the victim to eat the flesh. RCMP officers were recorded on tape stating that "badger (Li) was now at the back of the bus hacking off parts of the body and eating it..."

Friends of Mr McLean have paid tribute to him.

William Caron, whose brother was due to meet Mr McLean from the bus, told the Canadian Press that he had always tried to avoid trouble.
