Mullah Mohibullah responsible for ambush that killed three  Canadians and injured five in Aghanistan

Canadian soldier in Afghanistan
93 Canadians have been killed in Afghanistan since 2002.

Three more Canadians soldiers   were killed in Aghanistan , and five wounded,  this week.

Wednesday's deaths are the worst one-day toll for Canadians this year.

The Canadian cassualties were sustained in direct combat with the Taliban, near Cham Bazzar on the north side of the Arghandab river.

An elite unit of Taliban fighters recruited from the south, and heavily armed using the Taliban's best weapons ambushed the Canadians. The enemy ambushed our troops near Khandahar. The attack was organized by Mullah Mohibullah, the Chief Justice and insurgent leader in Halgham district.

The Taliban has  become more aggressive this fighting season launching well co-ordinated ambushes on Nato forces. The United States and France suffered cassualties in similar attacks over the past year.

http://www.dnd.ca/site/Feature_Story/2007/12/10_e.asp  Nato also lost three Polish soldiers last month in the province of Ghazni. The Taliban's military objective appears to be an attempt to win the collateral media war by undermining support for the war on the home front by increasing the cassualties of Nato. The cassualties to date have been low, when compared with conflicts of the past, consistent with a low intensity war. In this conflict, small units engage in combat and disengage in a fluid and deadly chess game.

The will to win and stay the course will ultimately determine the victor. Unfortunetly the price keeps getting more expensive. Brave men and women are lost, and this loss is a great burden for the families of the deceased who suffer the most.

The Taliban, despite their brutality, have proven a resilent and strong opponent. The combined forces of Nato have to date failed to defeat them.

As Nato has now identified Mullah Mohibullah as the insurgent leader, and Chief Justice for the Taliban controlled areas of southern Afhanistan, who organized and planned the attack, it now has a clear target to arrest and bring to military justice. It is time to become the hunter instead of the prey. It is a lot more fun and rewarding then the alternative.
