Afghan Police rape young boys The Canadian Forces have established a Board of Inquiry to investigate allegations that Afghan police raped young boys and that Canadian troops were ordered not to intervene. Military Chaplain Jean Johns came forward to complain about the alleged cover up. This past Spring NDP defence critic Dawn Black filed a formal complaint concerning these allegations after she was approached by several Canadian soldiers.
Afghan police have a reputation for corruption, cowardice, incompetence and now as deviant sexual predators. Canadian soldiers complained of wide spread sexual abuse in a practice known as "Bacha Bazi" or "boy play". The Afghan national government should join in this investigation. All police participating in this practice should be arrested and prosecuted. After they have their due process, and if convicted, they should be executed in the public squares as an example. This will restore some faith in the police and provide some needed general deterrence. Without such action the war effort is undermined; law and order crumbles into anarchy; and the local population turns against us. |
