Medical researchers report that over 100 Canadian per 100,000 have MS and that the prevalence of MS is substantially greater in Canada as compared to other developed countries.
Multiple sclerosis or MS is a chronic neurologic disease that is characterized by targeted destruction of myelin sheaths that surround the axoms of the neurons in the central nervous system. In recent years, there have been major advances in the development of desease-modifying therapy for relapsing-remitting MS. Advances in biotechnology and MS clinical trials have led to the development of new therapies, one of which is natalizumab (a recombinant a4) integrin antibody to human a4B1 integrin. This is proving to be an effective treatment for MS. |
