Mallorca - Part 2 PDF Print E-mail

by Stacey Mantzioris,

Mallorca
And then there were two...

It's about that time again...this week's update comes to you fresh
from a week in Mallorca and Ibiza.  I'm not going to lie to you, it
wasn't as easy as we thought it would be.  As it turns out adding "o"
to the end of a word does not in fact mean you are speaking Spanish.

Between the three of us Angie, Marsha, and I spoke about two words
(all useless) so manoeuvering around proved to be a bit of an issue.
Thankfully Marsha speaks fluent French when she's hammered, which
would have been great had we not been in Spain.  By day two she had at
least substituted gracias for merci, but it was an uphill battle.

The best was the day we rented a Punto (I swear to God it's a car) and
drove around the island.  The scenery is of course, incredible, and it
was nice to see there was life after sangria.  The mountains in
Mallorca are breathtaking - quite literally since we were sure the car
was going to fly off the road into the ocean at any moment.  Were it
not for the Punto's superior handling we might not be here today.

There was a minor issue leaving Ibiza, where we had only planned to
spend two days.  The plan was to take the ferry to Barcelona on a
Thursday night, which is funny because there is no ferry leaving Ibiza
on a Thursday night.  Imagine our surprise when we found out that
Domingo means Sunday in Spanish - aah the laughs we shared.  So we
wasted some quality beach time scrambling around trying to organize
our escape from the island because, quite honestly, had we stayed one
more day the three of us would be selling bananas on the beach right
now - it's a tough place to say goodbye to.

So we've noticed a particularly disturbing trend on our travels.  I
hate to say it people but the mullet has returned.  I repeat, the
mullet is on the move.  The dreaded hockey haircut has made its way to
the southern Mediterranean at last.  Mallorca in particular appears to
have been hit the hardest.  I don't want to alarm everyone
unnecessarily but for God's sake pay close attention during your next
haircut.  Those of you with small children may want to consider a
Flobee or similar home barbering device until the threat has passed.
We'll do what we can at this end, and just hope that Angie comes home
with 1 haircut and not 2.  The upshot is that we've developed a new
game called ¨punchbuggy mullet¨ that's kept us entertained for hours.
The rules are simple.  The first one to spot a mullet calls punchbuggy
and that particular mullet cannot be punched again for the rest of the
night.  Regulation mullets must be at least 1 inch in length and
mohawks do not count.  We have bruises up and down both arms.

Until next time, I hope everyone is well.  If someone could make sure
Marsha's sangria levels don't drop below 4 ounces this week we'd be
really grateful...it's quite possible she'll go into shock otherwise.

Bye for now everyone,
Stacey.
