By Gillian Downes 1. Toronto Zoo. Who can resist a bunch of critters? Check out the seasonal programs and see if you can swing by and hug a koala; at the very least you can go for a pony ride.
2. C.N.E. Whether it's a craft show, a clothing show, a home show or a concert, there's always something going on. 3. Roy Thompson Hall. Dress up, feel elegant and take in some culture.
4. Royal Ontario Museum (R.O.M.). From pearls to plantscapes, the museum is currently undergoing quite the renaissance. Call ahead - some exhibits are closed during renovations.
5. Art Gallery of Ontario. For those who wish to over-analyze works of art or simply stroll amongst beauty.
6. Skydome. Huge cups/vats of beer. Overpriced hot dogs. Men in tight uniforms. Oh, and there's some baseball too.
7. CN Tower. For those who dare to brave the heights of the world's tallest free-standing structure. Worth it - on crystal-clear days.
8. Bata Shoe Museum. Who would have thought a museum devoted entirely to shoes could be interesting? For the shoe fetishist in you, it's worth a visit just to see Elton Johns' platforms.
9. Toronto Islands. A semi-nude beach is the lead-off on a long walk across the islands, which feature hundreds of acres of parkland. Add to that a small community, a few cozy restaurants and a boardwalk with breathtaking views and you've got the perfect outing. Summer or winter.
10. Casa Loma. Feel like royalty without even having to own your own kingdom. Breathtaking art, secret passageways and lush gardens lend to this fine structure. |
