TOP TEN PLACES TO LIVE PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 15 June 2006

1. Queen Street Way West. The area's experiencing an overhaul that puts it in the running to pick up where the original Queen Street West left off. Eclectic galleries, one of a kind shopping and hotel refurbishment has everyone heading west of Spadina.

2. Front Street East. Coffee shops and diverse storefronts lie between condos, enticing you to leave your boudoir and snuggle up next to a fireplace in Second Cup. Never mind the fact that many cultural institutions (including St. Lawrence Market and the Hummingbird Centre) call this home, in this area your home will simply be a place to rest your head between outings.

3. Leaside. You'd think summer chose to shine brightest over Leaside, what with all the century-old trees that line the winding streets; then you witness the first snowfall amidst all the parks and the endless stretches of lawn and you realize how great a playground this must be for the local children.

4. Yorkville. Thee words: power, Prada and pretentious. Yorkville is, simply, what-you-see-is-what-you-get. In other words, don't expect a down-to-earth attitude/lifestyle when your home resides beside some of the priciest real estate in the city.

5. Bayview Village. Also known as Yorkville North, the condos in this area don't live up to the area's holier-than-thou reputation. Still, if ever there was a place to live in suburban Toronto, this is it.

6. Yonge-St. Clair. Right behind Yorkville, the condos and homes here are refined and dignified. Simple, upscale living for those who list the word "regal" among their qualities.

7. Harbourfront. Only seems worth it to live facing the water, right? That is until you see the cityscape from the über floors of a condominium… Unsurpassed views of Toronto.

8. Roncesvalles Village. A peculiar assortment of shops are choosing to call this unassumed neighbourhood home, which means a Queen Street-type revival is probably not too far off.

9. Condo-corridor (Yonge Street between Sheppard and Finch). Half the city seems to live in the, oh, ten, twenty, two hundred condos that have sprung up within mere blocks of Yonge Street along this strip. People who live near this strip of development almost never have to venture outside their neighbourhood, since everything's - everything - is within walking distance.

10. Toronto Islands (Algonquin and Ward's Islands). Never mind how you'd commute to work each morning, the laid-back atmosphere on the Toronto Islands is, arguably, second only to that of Vancouver. It is doubtful anyone on the island even wears a watch. Beautiful year-round, which probably explains the waiting list for property.
