The United Nations Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention ("UN") reported Friday, that Aghan opium producers and dealers have re-emerged as the world's top producers controlling 92% of the production and trade of heroin. Production soared 59% this year. The $2.7 billion drugs trade is approximately 33% of Afhanistan GDP.

The UN further stated that a half-million people are involved in Afghanistan's trafficking chain. This money also helps finance the Taliban insurgency and has helped contribute to the death of Canadian soldiers recently. See article on improving intelligence and taking care to avoid mistakes of the Soviet Union and US in Vietnam. Top US drugs officials have warned that Aghanistan could be "taken down by this whole drug problem".

Helmand province has seen a 162 % increase in opium production over last year. This province has also seen significant attacks on British troops and NATO forces this past year. The narco-economy is treatening to turn the state into a Narco state with the complete collapse of the democratic reforms initiated by the western allies.

The Taliban are also using the narcotics trade to finance the insurgency and to undermine the military. This was the experience of the Soviet Union. The United States suffered a similar fate in Vietnam. The "alligator in the room" has turned the room into a swamp that is now flooded with other alligators and has become very dangerous for our troops.

Narcotics also poison our youth and corrupt western nations as the Narco economy spreads to our economies and corrupts all our institutions.
