Phase I: Canadian forces with assistance of US Marines establish Girls' Orghanage and School for Disabled Kids in Afghanistan with the help of The Toronto Times and AHEPA The Toronto Times in association with AHEPA and the Canadian forces representative Lt. Commander Albert Wong (with assistance from US marines who volunteered their time and skilled labour) has raised funds and built a girls' orphanage and a school for disabled kids (first such school in Afghanistan) in Kabul. Without the Canadian army none of these projects would be possible. There are 200,000 disabled kids in Afghanistan who still need help. Lt. Commander Wong and the Canadian forces received an award of excellence for their work from the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Phase II : New initiatives for the south The Toronto Times and AHEPA are now looking forward to working with our troops to expand to the Khandahar area which offers exciting opportunities for humanitarian work. Toronto lawyer William Tatsiou has personally offered to fund at least one more project near Khandahar on behalf of AHEPA. "We are all blessed to live in this Great Coutry. Our troops are the best," stated Tatsiou. "We should all do as much as we can to help them".
NDP leader Jack Layton should go to Afghanistan to see the humanitarian work being done and how Canadian forces have made a real difference for the good and benefit of the Afghan people. Without going to Afghanistan Jack Layton is ignorant of the correct facts. As an intelligent and generous leader he should investigate the truth on the ground before making any further public statements. Pictures taken by Bill Roggio |
