Grapes and the Hellenic period in Afghanistan PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 11 September 2006
Grapes and wine are divine to the Greeks.  Grapes came to Aghanistan during the Hellenic period during the time of Alexander the Great. Alexander settled many parts of Aghanistan with his veterans. Hellenic monuments can still be found in Aghanistan. The Hellenic period lasted for approximately 300 years.

Following the death of Alexander his empire divided into four parts with India and Aghanistan forming a central part of the Hellenic world. 2,000 plus years AHEPA (the American Hellenic Education Progressive Association) has returned to assist our troops to rebuild this wonderful country which has a rich history and beautiful people.

The Afghans are a great collection of ethnic groups and their nation has great potential to become a great Islamic Republic.

Its fertile and rich valleys can again help feed its people and provide rich exports.

Canada has an important part to play in the reconstruction of Aghanistan. The Canadian forces are making a real positive difference in the lives of the Afghans and Canada should stay the course and finish the job.
