It was a beautiful, sunny and warm, Sunday afternoon to unveil the Veterans' Memorial monument at Queens Park in downtown Toronto.  Hundreds of veterans and thousands of active Canadian troops joined the festivities. The RCMP and Toronto Police ceremonial horses were also on hand with their riders dressed in splendid uniforms.

Marching bands and children. The autumn flowers were in full bloom and the trees had just started to change into their majical fall glory. A gentle breeze added to the wonder of the day.  The politicians were all there to honour our troops as were thousands of ordinary citizens.

The troops marched north on University Avenue and passed large crowds that had gathered early to honour our brave men and women. University Avenue with its wide boulevards, public monuments and green space was originally enlarged by the City fathers for such parades.

This was the largest military parade in decades and reflects the growing importance of Canada's armed forces as guardians of our democratic freedoms in a dangerous world.
