Canadian military intelligence units must expand and they must think outside the box

Canadian military intelligence units are small and inexperienced. As Canada has not engaged in a real war for over 50 years attrition and neglect have made Canadian military intelligence weak and ineffective. It is time to think outside the box and to try new things.

Canadian special forces must be expanded with more men and resources to gather information and to help target the command structure of the enemy. Under rules of war it is legal to seek out those you will kill or injure our beloved troops. Better that the Taliban thugs be killed then our troops.

To hit the enemy we must first identify them, their command structure, their location, numbers and strength.

Good intelligence allows the Canadian army to take the initiative and to become the hunters instead of the prey. In a country like Afghanistan a local reliable network is crucial. It is necessary to win the minds and hearts of the local population. Moreover, the civilian population will not support the perceived loser as the consequences of supporting the losing side can be brutal. It is time to hunt out the leaders of the insurgent Taliban command structure and bring them to justice.

To be the perceived winner it is necessary to improve the conditions on the ground and to make sure the enemy and local population  understand that we will stay, no matter the difficulties or sacrifices, until the work is completed. This work could take two years or 100 years, it does not matter as we have the will to finnish the job: establish a stable democratic nation that will not again become a base for terrorists to attack us.
