Toronto Cop charged with indecent act at Toys R Us store involving children A Toronto cop has been charged with indecent act involving children at a Toys R Us store. If proven true this would be a shocking breach of public trust. "I have a little bit of a patience problem - I don't really own that quality," notes B.C. based alternative acoustic artist Marnie Mains.  Having released her self-titled debut album in 2004, this singer/songwriter is chomping at the bit to deliver some new music into the ears of her listeners.

Finding her musical wings after booting her ex-boyfriend's "deadbeat musician ass" out of her life, she stole took his guitar and began to pen tracks of her own before hitting the club circuit.  Independently, Mains would sell close to 1,000 EP's off the stage following shows that featured her emotionally prevalent and soul-searching acoustic based tunes - occasions such as these would eventually lead to a breakthrough of sorts.

A short time ago, Mains happened to have Nickelback's guitar technician check her out at a local B.C. gig within Richard's on Richards and offered to produce her forthcoming album as soon as his touring obligations were over with.  However, since Nickelback's gigging schedule seems to be on going, Mains has had to re-group and decide on where she wants to go from here - after all, the clock's been ticking.

"Timing is huge - but I'm not really that organized of a musician," she admits.  "All of my songs come from such an emotional spot.  I haven't released anything in almost 2 years and I have 40 or 50 songs to record.  I feel as though I'm at this point where I am more or less marinating in my songs because it's been too long, and I'm like 'okay, I've got to get something out now.'

"(But) the business sort of kicks in - I've been going over my songs and making sure that I am saying the right things, how I want to say them - I've been stewing in these songs for a long time.  Music is the most important thing to me," continues Mains.  "I wanted to have another album out in the next year after my last album, but life factors in, and finances factor in, and you think, 'well, I can do this tour, or write another few songs.'  It's a matter of what seems more important taking precedent."

Obviously, judging by Mains' opinions, getting her songs together and ready for the public is of the utmost importance.  Rather than waiting on friends and business connections to come through, she has decided to learn the ins-and-outs of what it takes to put her own music together from top to bottom.  In order to do this, Mains has been utilizing the Pro-Tools digital production program, even though there is still a hunt going on for a professional producer.

Once that is taken care of, Mains' next mission will be to put out an album that fully represents her and her love for such diverse styles of music as jazz, acoustic rock, and whatever else she feels like embracing - because being definitively defined is something that isn't wanted in this girl's world.

"I don't really want to pigeonhole myself into one set genre," confirms Mains.  "I like all kinds of music, so rather than going by genre to categorize myself, I sort of want to go with the idea that my voice is the consistency in the album.

"If I could, I'd make all different kinds of albums."
