Pictures taken by Gary James along the Thelon River, Northwest Territories, during his recent canoe trip on this great Canadian river.
The Thelon River flows 1000 kilometers in the Canadian Northwest Territories across northern tundra to the Hudson Bay. Steep Valley slopes have created a protected valley system with a rich and unusual forest oasis located hundreds of kilometers above the tree line. Gary James, a Toronto Cop (One of Toronto's finest), his wife and friends spent two weeks traveling along this magestic northern river, camping under northern stars in the great vast and beautiful part of Canada. Very fews Canadians from southern Ontario have ever gone this far north in this wonderful country. As we travel around the world this year, we wanted to start our journey in our own backyard in the remote, pristine and beautiful far north.
