UN suspends aid to Gaza after its staff were attacked by Israel The UN has suspended aid operations in Gaza because its staff have been hit by Israel. The world community has again condemned Israel for its actions. A friend of Israel stated confidentially, as he did not want to be identified: "I love Israel. However, I cannot I understand these stupid actions. There is absolutely no justification for these attacks on the UN or civilians under its protection. Israel was founded after the horrors of world war II; accordingly it represented hope for a better world. These attacks undermine support for Israel without any real or lasting improvement in security." Details...

First Take International Student Film Festival started in 2000 by Executive Director and Founder Paris Roger, who has over 17 years of experience in the Film and Television Industry.  The festival originally was a Film Student Festival, but as the years continued it was soon discovered that high school students also have a place in the Film Industry.  “It became apparent to me back in 2004, that when we discovered a 14yr old with a feature film that we needed to expand our film festival towards a younger crowd. With over 45,000 high schools in North America… that could be a lot more filmmakers to entertain us with”

More and more high school students are getting involved in the making of films, partially thanks to the technology getting better and cheaper, and because of innovating websites such as MYSPACE.COM and YOUTUBE.COM

First Take is screening last years winning films so those who have not had a chance to appreciate these films, will be able to do so now.  Some of the winning filmmakers will be in attendance for the screening.

So please come out January 27th to view these winning films for First Take International Student Film Festival and have a wonderful time meeting these film makers.

The Screening is $12 a ticket for advance tickets which you can get at http://www.ticketbreak.com or you can come last minute and pay $15 at the door.

Following the Screening, there will also be a Lunch (Location TBA) with the following guest speakers: Wayne Thompson Executive Producer of “Spinning Into Butter” starring Sarah Jessica Parker, also Craig Goodwill; Producer/Director “My Own Revolution” for the CBC, also he is the Executive Director of MobileJamFest.com.

Screenings of the winning films are at the Rainbow Cinemas, 80 Front Street East, at Jarvis. The screening time for the films start at 11 AM, with the doors opening at 10:30AM. The lunch will take place after the screenings.

First Take International Student Film Festival has closed its 2006 season, and is in the works for 2007. First Take is starting to reach into 45,000 schools in North America, and accepting new films for 2007 with the first deadline slated for April 2007. We expect over 3,500-5,000 films will be sent in for our 7th annual international student film festival.  This festival is all about supporting Students and the media they create. We are looking for ambitious students who are making films that we can screen for First Take, July 2007.

Hopefully these Screenings First Take continues to host will inspire many students to continue making films and see that there really is room in the Industry for young talent and creativity without any discrimination.
